Zwift

VeloLoop and Zwift complement each other well. You can import Zwift custom workouts into VeloLoop and use VeloLoop's screen feedback while riding in Zwift or watching something else.

Import Zwift workouts

Zwift custom workouts are saved as .zwo files (XML format with FTP-percentage targets). The default location on both Windows and macOS is:

Documents/Zwift/Workouts/<YourZwiftID>/

Steps

  1. 1Locate your .zwo file in the Zwift Workouts folder.
  2. 2Open VeloLoop's Workout Builder and click Import.
  3. 3Select the .zwo file.
  4. 4Enter your FTP when prompted — VeloLoop converts percentage targets to absolute watts.
  5. 5Review the preview and click Import & Save.
  • VeloLoop imports warmups, intervals, cooldowns and repeat blocks
  • Ramp sections are converted to short stepped blocks (15 seconds each)
  • Free-ride sections are preserved (no power target during those intervals)
  • Text events from ZWO files are imported as step notes

Using VeloLoop alongside Zwift

VeloLoop can run at the same time as Zwift on the same computer.

Important: BLE sensors can only connect to one app at a time. If Zwift holds the BLE connection, VeloLoop cannot connect to that sensor.

Solutions

ANT+ for Zwift, BLE for VeloLoop

Use an ANT+ USB stick for Zwift and let VeloLoop connect over BLE. Each app gets its own protocol and there is no conflict. VeloLoop also supports ANT+ as an optional addition with a USB receiver, but BLE remains its primary and recommended connection method.

Zwift Companion app

Use Zwift's Companion app on your phone for sensor bridging, freeing the BLE connection for VeloLoop.

Use each app separately

Use VeloLoop on its own for structured training and Zwift for virtual riding.

  • In Feedback Only mode (the default), VeloLoop does not control your trainer — it is read-only, so there is no conflict with Zwift's trainer control. VeloLoop also offers optional ERG and Resistance modes, but these should not be used while Zwift is controlling the trainer.
  • VeloLoop does not interact with the Zwift virtual world, avatar or roads

What VeloLoop does not import from Zwift

  • Video or virtual world integration (VeloLoop is video-agnostic)
  • Audio cues
  • Cadence targets (Zwift ZWO supports these but VeloLoop focuses on power-based feedback)
  • Star ratings or other Zwift metadata

Creating workouts for both platforms

  • If you create a workout in VeloLoop's builder, you can export it as a .json file
  • To use the same workout in Zwift, create it in Zwift's custom workout editor or use a third-party ZWO editor
  • ZWO is an open format — many community tools can generate .zwo files
