Compatibility
What works with VeloLoop and what to know before you start.
For step-by-step setup instructions, see the Help Centre connectivity guide.
Supported Bluetooth services
VeloLoop connects to standard Bluetooth Low Energy cycling sensors. For a walkthrough of pairing your devices, see the connecting devices guide.
Heart Rate Service
0x180DHeart-rate monitors (chest straps, arm bands, watch broadcast)
Cycling Power Service
0x1818Power meters and some smart trainers
Cycling Speed & Cadence
0x1816Cadence sensors
Fitness Machine Service (FTMS)
0x1826Smart trainers with indoor bike data and optional trainer control (ERG/resistance modes)
Smart trainers & power meters
VeloLoop works with trainers and power meters that broadcast standard Bluetooth LE cycling data. Most modern smart trainers and power meters support these profiles, but compatibility has not been verified with every device.
Trainer control: In Feedback Only mode (the default), VeloLoop reads power and cadence data without ever controlling your trainer — safe to use alongside Zwift, TrainerRoad and other apps. Optional ERG and resistance modes are available for FTMS-compatible trainers. Software-verified; hardware testing pending.
Important: Windows Media Player's immersive fullscreen mode is not compatible with VeloLoop's overlay. Browser-based players (YouTube, Netflix) and desktop players (VLC) work as expected.
Heart-rate monitors
Any standard BLE heart-rate monitor should work — chest straps, arm bands, or watch-based HR broadcast.
Platform support
Windows 11, 64-bit
Not included in the current release
Entertainment compatibility
VeloLoop works alongside most windowed and fullscreen media applications: YouTube (browser), Netflix (browser), VLC, and similar. Windows Media Player's immersive fullscreen mode is not compatible with VeloLoop's overlay due to window-band ordering boundaries.
Using VeloLoop with other cycling apps
VeloLoop is an independent desktop overlay. It may run alongside other cycling applications if your sensors support multiple simultaneous Bluetooth connections. This has not been independently verified. If your trainer only supports one BLE connection, consider using a separate sensor for VeloLoop.
For practical tips on running VeloLoop alongside Zwift, TrainerRoad or other platforms, see the using VeloLoop with other apps guide in the Help Centre.
Structured workout import
VeloLoop can import structured workouts from ZWO (Zwift), ERG (TrainerRoad/CompuTrainer), MRC (CompuTrainer/PerfPRO), supported FIT workout files, and VeloLoop JSON. FTP-relative files are converted to absolute power targets. Some format limitations apply — zone-based targets and non-timed durations may require manual adjustment.
Known limitations
- ANT+ available as an optional addition with a USB receiver — BLE is the primary and recommended connection method
- Strava upload is implemented but not yet active (requires one-time service setup); Garmin Connect and TrainingPeaks require manual FIT file upload
- No Linux or mobile support
- Windows Media Player immersive fullscreen is not compatible with the overlay
- macOS support not available in the current version
