Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect is the training platform for Garmin devices. VeloLoop can both import planned workouts from Garmin Connect and provide ride files for upload.

Import workouts from Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect workouts can be downloaded as FIT workout files.

  1. 1Open Garmin Connect on the web (connect.garmin.com).
  2. 2Go to Training > Workouts.
  3. 3Select the workout you want to use.
  4. 4Click the download/export button to save as a .fit file.
  5. 5Import the .fit file into VeloLoop via the Workout Builder.

Important: Download the planned workout, not a completed activity. VeloLoop will tell you if you select an activity file by mistake.

Some Garmin workouts use zone-based targets. VeloLoop cannot resolve these without zone definitions, so they appear as free-ride sections. See the Import Workouts page for details.

Upload rides to Garmin Connect

  1. 1Log into Garmin Connect on the web.
  2. 2Click the import icon (cloud with up arrow) or go to the Import Data page.
  3. 3Select your FIT file from Documents/VeloLoop/Rides.
  4. 4Garmin Connect processes the file and adds it to your activities.

Alternative: Use Garmin Express on your desktop.

Note: No direct sync — upload is manual via the web interface or Garmin Express.

What Garmin Connect shows

Power

Full power data, averages, normalised power, and power zones (if zones are configured).

Cadence and heart rate

Displayed normally if the data is in the file.

Distance

If virtual distance is enabled in VeloLoop, estimated flat-road distance calculated from power is included in the FIT file. Garmin Connect displays this alongside power metrics.

TSS / Training Effect

Garmin calculates its own training metrics from the power data.

Sport type

Set to cycling / indoor_cycling in the FIT file.

Garmin devices and VeloLoop

  • VeloLoop reads BLE (and optionally ANT+) sensor data directly — it does not communicate with Garmin devices.
  • If you use a Garmin bike computer alongside VeloLoop, each records its own activity file independently.
  • There is no conflict — BLE and ANT+ sensors can broadcast to multiple listeners simultaneously.
