VeloLoop automatically records every ride as a local FIT file. You can upload these files to your favourite training platform whenever you choose — no account or internet connection is needed during your ride.

What's recorded

  • 1 Hz power, cadence and heart-rate data (raw sensor values, not smoothed)
  • Estimated virtual distance and speed (when enabled) — derived from power using a flat-road physics model with fixed assumptions (85 kg rider, standard aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance)
  • Timer start/stop events
  • One lap per workout step (timed workouts) or one lap for steady rides
  • Session and lap summaries with average and maximum values
  • Sport type: cycling / indoor_cycling

What's not recorded (and why)

  • No GPS position — indoor cycling has no meaningful location data
  • No altitude — not applicable to stationary riding

Distance and speed values are estimates based on a flat-road physics model — they are not direct measurements. As a reference, 200 W produces an estimated speed of roughly 31 km/h. Paused segments and gaps longer than 10 seconds produce zero distance. You can disable virtual distance in VeloLoop's settings if you prefer files without it.

Where files are saved

Ride files are saved to the Documents/VeloLoop/Rides folder in your user directory. Files are not stored inside the application folder itself, so they are preserved if you update or reinstall VeloLoop.

Uploading to platforms

VeloLoop saves your rides as standard FIT files. When Strava is connected in settings, you can upload directly from the post-ride screen. For other platforms, upload your FIT files manually.

Garmin Connect

Go to the Import Data page on Garmin Connect and upload your FIT file. You can also use Garmin Express on desktop.

Estimated distance and speed from VeloLoop are displayed alongside power metrics. Garmin calculates TSS and other metrics from power data.

Strava

Use the Upload Activity page on Strava. The FIT file is tagged as indoor cycling, so Strava typically auto-detects it as a "Virtual Ride".

Strava displays the estimated distance and speed from VeloLoop if virtual distance was enabled. No map is shown for indoor rides.

TrainingPeaks

Upload through the Manual Upload page on TrainingPeaks, or use a connected app that syncs automatically.

TSS is calculated from power data. Estimated distance and speed from VeloLoop are displayed on the activity.

Intervals.icu

Upload the FIT file directly, or sync from a connected platform like Garmin Connect or Strava.

All power-based metrics are calculated normally.

Crash recovery

VeloLoop saves a CSV sidecar file alongside each FIT recording as a safety net. If the application closes unexpectedly during a ride, VeloLoop reconstructs the FIT file from this CSV the next time it launches. No manual intervention is required — just open VeloLoop again and the recovered file will appear in your Rides folder.
