Screen overlay

Cycling workout overlay

Ambient screen feedback that guides your effort without blocking your video.

What is an ambient cycling overlay?

VeloLoop sits on top of whatever is on your screen — a streaming service, a video player, a virtual cycling app — and provides feedback through subtle visual and audio changes rather than numbers and charts.

When your power, cadence or heart rate drifts from your targets, the overlay adjusts. When you're back on target, it fades away. Your video stays visible throughout.

Three feedback channels

Screen dimming

The overlay darkens your display proportionally to how far you've drifted from your target. A slight dim means you're close; a deeper dim means you need to adjust. When you're on target, the screen returns to full brightness.

Viewing area reduction

A dark border gradually narrows the visible area of your screen. This works alongside dimming to create a clear physical signal — you can feel the screen "closing in" when you're off target.

Audio reduction

Optionally, VeloLoop can lower your system audio when you drift from targets. This is a secondary cue — useful if you're listening to a podcast or music and want an audio signal alongside the visual feedback.

Gentle and Normal presets

Two built-in feedback presets control how strong the overlay response is:

Gentle

Subtle feedback. Up to 35% dimming and 6% border reduction. Good for relaxed rides or when you want minimal visual distraction.

Normal

Firmer feedback. Up to 45% dimming and 8% border reduction. Better for focused interval sessions where you want a clear signal to stay on target.

The HUD — optional metrics display

While the ambient overlay is the primary feedback mechanism, VeloLoop also includes a small floating HUD (heads-up display) that shows your current metrics. The HUD is:

  • Draggable — position it wherever suits your screen layout
  • Auto-fading — it becomes semi-transparent when not needed
  • Position-saving — it remembers its placement per monitor

The HUD is deliberately minimal. It shows the numbers if you glance at it, but the ambient feedback is designed so you rarely need to.

Works with any content on screen

The overlay is content-agnostic. It works on top of:

VeloLoop doesn't need to know what you're watching. It monitors your Bluetooth sensors and adjusts the overlay independently of the content beneath it.

Designed for Windows 11

The overlay uses a transparent, click-through window layer on Windows 11. It sits above your content but doesn't interfere with mouse clicks, keyboard shortcuts or media controls.
